Dear Fans,
The Grand Lake Mariners Summber Collegiate baseball team is beginning its eighteenth (18th) consecutive season as a member of the Great Lakes Collegiate Summer League. The league was sanctioned in 1988, thirteen sites have ceased operation. The Grand Lake Mariners are the third (3rd) oldest member of the league and are located in the smallest community in the League.
Currently over 160 businesses and individuals contribute from $50.00 to $3,500.00, approximately 50% of the financial support to operate the club. The remainder of funds come from a variety of sources (concession profits, Bingo, 50/50 drawings, gate admissions, BBQ Ribfest, and player assessment ($350.00 / player).
The Mariners believe that the Collegiate players who come here to play add the quality of life in the surrounding area.
This year (2008) League Playoffs will involve the top six (6) teams after league play is completed.
In closing, the Mariners would like to thank all businesses and individuals who have contributed financial support, the businesses who provide jobs, the fans who attend games and last but not least, the Host Families who provide housing for our players. We could not operate without them. Just consider the cost if the Mariners had to pay for housing and meals for 28 players for two months.
We hope you will make Westview Park, Jim Hoess Field, your entertainment center for the summer. As always, enjoy the season and if you have any questions or comments, or want to become a member of the board / committee of the Grand Lake Mariners, please contact a board member or myself.
Have a wonderful and safe summer in Celina, Ohio.
Sincerely,
Wayne E. Miller
President / GM
